Grand Dishes X Nowness presents 'Yiayia'

Nowness commissions Grand Dishes to produce and direct a film inspired by Yiayia.

"On the Greek island of Corfu, Anastasia Miari—one of the Grand Dishes directors—follows her yiayia (granny) as she peels, chops, and cooks a dish perfected by the years and her love of natural ingredients. Living in a tiny white-washed house, Miari's 80-year-old grandmother is wholly self-sufficient, planting by the moon's cycle and making her own oil and wine."

Grand Dishes X Leeds Indie Food Festival

Running 10 May - 10 June 2018
The Gallery at Munro House

With the help of Leeds Indie Food, The Gallery and Café 164 have teamed up with Grand Dishes to show a carefully curated selection of images that capture the spirit of the Grand Dishes project in an exhibition setting.

Shot on film with a 1960s Mamiya camera, the photographs featured in the exhibition preserve and protect the memory of these grandmothers at their most relaxed – in their homes, cooking a dish that says something about the life they have lived. With each photograph comes an accompanying recipe and an anecdote in the grandmothers’ own words.
